Attendance and Absences
Parents and carers of enrolled students are encouraged to download the free Sentral for Parents app to their mobile phone or device. The unique access key you receive from the school ensures only you are the one to see your child's information.
⭐ The easiest (and school preferred) way to notify the school of an absence is through this Sentral Parent Portal app.⭐
If you do not have an access key to enable linking your child to Sentral, please email the school at toronto-h.school@det.nsw.edu.au from the primary email address on file with the school. More information on accessing Sentral is available here.

How do I report a Student absence?
Parents and Carers can report an absence numerous ways:
1. ➡️ Through the Sentral Parent Portal here(Instructions in the Sentral FAQs section above).
2. 📧 By emailing the school at toronto-h.school@det.nsw.edu.au
3. ☎️ By calling the THS Office on 49591788
4. 📧 By responding to an email or 📲 SMS sent from THS
5. ✍🏽 By writing a note and giving it to the student to hand to their Roll Call Teacher.
Please Note: If writing a note, please include the student's first and last name, the dates absent, their Year group, and the reason for the absence.
✔️ I am arriving late to school WITH a Parent/Carer. What do I need to do?
If arriving with a parent/carer, students go to the Main Office where the parent/carer will complete some paperwork.
The Student then proceeds to Student Services to sign in. Student Services also adjust the attendance.
✔️ I am arriving late to school WITHOUT a Parent/Carer. What do I need to do?
Ideally, the Parent/Carer should write a note explaining the reason for the late arrival.
If late to school and before 9am must sign in with a Deputy Principal.
After 9am, late students are to report to Student Services located in the library.
Admission to classrooms will only be granted with a late note..
✔️ What are justified reasons for being absent from school?
Justified reasons for student absences may include:
• being sick or having an infectious disease
• having an unavoidable medical appointment
• being required to attend a recognised religious holiday
• exceptional or urgent family circumstances e.g. attending a funeral.
✔️ How many days do I get to explain any absence?
Parents must provide an explanation for absences to the school within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence.
Where an explanation has not been received within the 7-day timeframe, the school will record the absence as unjustifiedon the student's record.
✔️ I need to leave school before 2:20. What do I do?
The Parent/Carer is required to write a note noting the reason. This note needs to be signed by a Deputy Principal, ideally before 8:15.
Students then take this signed note to Student Services. An Early Leavers Pass is issued to the Student and can normally be collected at Recess from Student Services.
For cases when the need to leave school before 2:20 is unexpected, parents/carers can ring the school.
✔️ Why am I being asked to supply a Doctor's Certificate for absences greater than 3 days?
When a student is absent for more than three days sick, the Department of Education requires a Medical Certificate.
Absences over three days without a Medical Certificate will be classified as unjustified.
✔️ We are going on holidays during the School Term. What do we have to do?
Check the Assessment Schedules available in each Canvas Course.
Complete and return an Application for Extended Leave available here.
